What is the activation date?

The activation date of your Japan Rail Pass is the date you wish to start using your pass. Any date that is within 30 days of the exchange date can be selected as “Activation”.

Example: If you decide to exchange your order on the 1st of June, you have to option of selecting an activation date within 30 days of the 1st of June. What this means is that any day from the 1st to the 30th of June can be selected as Activation date.

Once you have chosen the date that best fits your travel plans, and confirmed it to the staff at any Exchange Office in Japan, you will no longer be able to change it.

If you have selected the 1st of June as your activation date and you have purchased a 7-day Japan Rail Pass, it will be valid from the 1st until the 7th of June, midnight.
